Why send your children to Religious School?   Because Jewish children, just like Jewish adults, need contact with other Jews in order to develop their Jewish identities.  "Social Psychologist, Simon Herman (1989)  pointed out  that Jewish identity is shaped significantly by a person's social interactions and described how positive Jewish "reference groups" could help people overcome feelings of alienation and ambivalence about their Jewish identity.  Researcher, Bethamie Horowitz (2000), found that Jewish interpersonal experiences tend to have a lasting impact on the development of a positive Jewish identity."  From Jewish Lives, Jewish Learning by Dianne Tickton Schuster (2003)

SEE CALENDAR ON THIS SITE FOR SCHEDULE OF CLASSES

Throughout the year we have All School Holiday Celebrations.  We need parents to volunteer to help us for these events. Please let us know for which celebrations you can help.

Sunday Service: We encourage you to attend the religious school service on Sunday mornings, led by the Rabbi.

Attendance: Progress in Jewish education is best achieved through regular classroom participation.  This is especially true with Hebrew language study.  Your child may find he/she is unable to keep up if not in class consistently.  Please make an effort to attend every class and be on timeAll four Hebrew School Shabbat services are part of the regularly scheduled Hebrew School program and attendance at all four is expected for all students in the Hebrew School.

Hebrew School Books: Hebrew school tuition includes the cost of curriculum materials and books for each student.  If your child loses his or her book during the school year, it will be the parent's responsibility to order a new book.  If this becomes necessary, please contact Mandy for more information on how to order the book.

Snow & Inclement Weather: We may heave to cancel classes due to snow and inclement weather.  If Springfield Public Schools are closed on a Wednesday, the Hebrew school will automatically be canceled as well.  On Sundays, we will call the parents the evening before or early Sunday morning if we are canceling.

Gemilut Chasadim: Throughout the school year, students are encourage to give money to the Tzedakah fund each week as one way to learn about giving to others.  At the end of the year, the children will help decide how to distribute the money collected.

End of Day: Please pick up your children on time.

Final Reminders: Again this year we are asking that your child not bring toys or anything else that may distract him/her.  We are also requesting that your child not wear shoes that have wheels.

We want all the children of members of Temple Israel to be able to attend Religious School.  If you are in need of financial assistance, please contact Mandy.

In advance, we want to thank you for your support.  We look forward to seeing everybody in August.

Shalom
